A MAP OF THE WORLD THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE UTOPIAS IS NOT WORTH EVEN GLANCING AT.
A MAP OF THE WORLD THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE UTOPIAS IS NOT WORTH EVEN GLANCING AT.

Inspired by the artist’s experience working with a south-west-based drag collective, this project celebrates the queer utopias that drag can create, for both the audience and the artists. Through individual portraits, the drag artists are lifted to celebrity status, allowing the audience to admire their beauty, and to revel in the reclamation of childhood offered by drag.

Queer utopias, however, are not concrete, but vulnerable, ephemeral environments, at risk from external pressures. These pieces celebrate the resilience of the queens rallying against heteronormative cultural practices to create joyful utopian spaces.
